We offer tailored approach to match individual needs for blepharitis, dry and watery eyes. Our assessment process ensures that each patient is assessed by Oculoplastic Specialist. Each follow on session is approximately one hour long and provided by expert Optometrist who undertakes a variety of treatments. The aim is to help troublesome eyes in need of special care and attention and to help our patients have more comfortable ocular experience day in and day out.

Manual Meibomian Gland Expression

One of the most effective treatments for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), Blepharitis, Recurrent Chalazia and Dry eye symptoms.

Manual Meibomian Gland Expression is preceded by gentle eye lid heating in a relaxing atmosphere. Our expert opometrist will use a gentle method to unblock and cleanse blocked pores which contribute to chronic dry eye symptoms and all the conditions mentioned above.

BlePhex TM

BlephEx TM is recommended for management of dry eyes, blepharitis and Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). This treatment can significantly improve symptoms of blepharitis, MGD and dry eye syndrome (DES). Available as part of our treatment package.

Additional Treatments for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

Medical treatment with anti microbial, anti inflammatory or immunosuppressive therapies may be indicated.

Chalazion, Lumps and Bumps

Diagnosis, medical treatment and precision removal of eyelid leisons. Eyelids are populated by numerous small glads, which when congested, inflammed or infected become troublesome. We offer full consultation and can discuss various immediate and long term treatment options including medical and surgical management of eye lid cysts as well as any lump in the periocular area.

Incision and Curettage of Meibomian Cysts: Chalazion Removal

This quick surgical procedure is advocated for persistent chalazia.

Removal and Diagnosis of Eyelid Lesions

Eye lid skin can develop changes due to UV light exposure ( actinic keratosis, basal cell papillomas, carcinoma and melanoma amongs others). New, growing lesions particularly if the changes become accelerated should be assessed and in some cases removed (excision or incision biopsy).

As well as posing an aesthetics concern these should  be assessed promptly and we advocate early consultation with our specialists.

Dry and Watery Eyes

Tailored diagnosis and treatment for a variety of causes of dry and watery eyes. Surgical options available for complex lacrimal cases, assessment by Oculoplastic, Maxillofacial and ENT surgeons.

Syringing of Tear Duct

Having watery eyes could significantly affect quality of life. As a part of full ocular assessment we offer lacrimal syringing to assess flow of tears into the drainage pathway. Blocked lacrimal system can be treated, most often surgically depending on the exact level of obstruction. Surgical options range from punctoplasty (a small outpatient procedure) to Dacryocystorhinostomy DCR.

Punctoplasty

Punctoplasty can be recommended in case of narrow or blocked entrance of the tear drainage system (the punctum). Punctoplasty opens the entry point into the tear drainage system and allows tears to drain away from ocular surface improving watery eyes. This is a minor procedure usually performed under local anaesthesia.

Punctual Plugs Insertion for Dry Eye

Punctual plugs are tiny devices (size of grain of rice) that can be inserted into the puncti, eye lid openings of the tear drainage system. They prevent tear drainage from the eye and can improve the comfort and symptoms of dry eyes ( pain, redness, blurred vision etc.) They can be easily removed too.

Endonasal DCR (scar free surgery for nasolacrimal duct obstruction)

Correction of eye lid position: Ptosis, Ectropion and Entropion

Blepharoplasty

Upper and lower eye lids are prone to developing  skin laxity as the skin layer in this area is the thinnest skin in human body. Blepharoplasty can significantly improve appearance and in some cases improve vision if the excess skin obstructs visual axis. We offer Blepharoplasty surgery and would be happy to discuss your needs.

Ectropion Correction

Eye lid can become slightly lax and this is referred to as Ectropion of the lower eyelid.

Ectropion contributes to development of uncomfortable, dry or watery and even red sticky eye. If untreated reduction in vision may result in addition to the above secondary to corneal changes. We offer surgery for simple and complex ectropion correction and often this surgery is covered by medical insurance providers.

Entropion Correction

Eye lid laxity can lead to in-turning of eyelid which is termed Entropion. This condition contributes to development of uncomfortable, dry and red eye with discharge which can lead to permanent reduction in vision secondary to corneal changes if left untreated. We offer botulinum toxin or surgery for simple and complex entropion correction and often this surgery is covered by medical insurance providers.

Ptosis Correction

Ptosis is usually referred to conditions causing lowered or droopy upper eyelid. There are many underlying causes including contact lens wear, neurological causes eg.Horner‘s Syndrome or age related changes. We provide full consultation process to establish the cause and offer surgical options under local anaesthetic with sedation.

Urgent Eye Conditions

For any new contact lens related concerns, red sore eyes, new sudden lumps and bumps in the periocular area, eye lid or corneal abrasions.

Acute Red Eye

Sudden onset of red eye can be a sign of mild conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis but may also indicate more serious causes such as infective conjunctivitis, sub conjunctival haemorrhage, bacterial or herpetic keratitis, uveitis and glaucoma. If the red eye is accompanied by reduction in visual acuity it should be treated as medical emergency and an ophthalmic opinion is needed.
